Travel Tips In Venice

If you’re flying to Venice, there are two main options, according to your requirements.

The city is well served by the Marco Polo International Airport, which is very handy for tourists from across Europe.

Visitors will be delighted to find that after they have picked up their bags, a seven minute walk will take them to the dock where water taxis or Alilagune waterbuses to Venice will be found. You better get used to water though, this is the only way they get around in Venice, so if you aren’t a fan of the wet stuff you may prefer a different destination.

One of the best Venice travel tips is to buy a multi-trip ticket at the airport, as it will save lots of money if you are staying for more than one day. They are available for three days or a week, and give unlimited access to vaporetti.

There are many websites worth checking out when it comes to buying an air ticket, some of which compare prices of various operators.

Price comparison sites, however, won’t show the low-cost air carriers. Here, it is a case of visiting the specific airline’s site.

Ask anyone who has flown to the city and they’ll say that one of the best Venice travel tips is to fly to Treviso, rather than Marco Polo Airport.

Both bmi Baby and Ryanair fly to Treviso, and their fares are very competitive.

There are positives and negatives to taking this option. The good news is that you will likely save money, and that there are buses which run from outside the terminal connecting it with Piazzale Roma in around an hour.

The main drawback is that if you arrive late at night, your accommodation options are rather limited.

If it is too late to catch the bus into the city, you will need to check into a Treviso hotel, which will probably involve you taking a taxi from the airport, as the local buses are infrequent at night. If you factor two taxi journeys into the equation, it might not make a Treviso flight much cheaper than flying to Marco Polo.

Give your car away

If you’re a vegan, the likelihood is that you probably care more about nature and the environment than most other people in the UK. You want to make the vegan lifestyle applicable to your whole life, but sometimes that isn’t easy. When it comes to cars, however, there are things you can do to ease your conscience. If you’re ready to buy a new car, then maybe it’s time to give the old one away.

Of course, if your old car has real value, then it makes financial sense to trade it in or sell it privately, but if the value is negligible, then disposing of it in an environmentally sound way can be a bit of a headache these days.

Not any more, though, it seems. The UK social enterprise (a business which exists purely to help fund good social causes like charities) Giveacar makes sure that any value left in your old banger is realised for charity.

And the organisation makes sure the car is dealt with in a way which is best for the environment. Any proceeds generated by your old car go to the charity of your choice. Over the last two years Giveacar has managed to raise over £350k for 450 charities.

Family cars which are still roadworthy but whose value has fallen to such a level that it is
relatively unimportant to you are particularly sought after by Giveacar. Such vehicles are always in demand and achieve a reasonable re-sale value so, of course, the indirect donation you’re making to your chosen charity is maximised.

Equally important are environmental concerns. Giveacar makes sure that your old car is recycled to the highest environmental standards.

Then when choosing your replacement – why not go even greener with an environmentally friendly vehicle such as an all-electric vehicle or hybrid? It may cost a bit more to begin with, but will save you money in the long run – and be better for the environment. And by the time you come to say goodbye to that one – the cars available will be even more beneficial for the environment.

Reasons to go greener

If you’re a vegan and truly care about the environment and world of nature around you, you’ll already know that there are many reasons to go greener in your motoring choices. But do your friends understand these reasons? Maybe not. So, why not educate them?

Perhaps the most important reason of all is that it’s simply better. It’s better for our collective environment – the vast majority of scientists seem to agree – and that’s really all we need to know.

But there are other, more practical and down to earth reasons, too – mainly that going green can save you a small fortune.

But first, a few frightening stats: Did you now that road vehicles generate over a fifth of all emissions of carbon dioxide in the European Union? OK, it isn’t all from cars, but still more than half of it is and with today’s technology and increasingly green choices we can all make with relative ease, there’s really no excuse for CO2 emissions not to fall drastically if we can all make more informed motoring choices.

Did you also know that, according to the UK’s Campaign for Better Transport Charitable Trust, an estimated 80% of journeys are less than five miles, whilst a staggering 33% are under one mile in length?

The majority of these journeys could be done by other means such as walking, cycling or by using public transport (and saving us all money) – or at least with more people per car. Because that’s another shocking statistic; the average UK commuting car carries just 1.2 passengers. And if two drivers shared one car, they would decrease their overall pollution by 60%.

But if a car really is an essential part of your life, then why not at least choose a hybrid ? Hybrid cars have two motors; a conventional petrol engine and an electric motor which helps out when necessary such as hill climbing. What this means in practice is that hybrid cars offer huge reductions in harmful emissions and give their owners around 30% more miles per gallon as an overall average (and sometimes a lot more) so they’re far cheaper to run over time.

Gourmet Popcorn Makes The Perfect Gift

Let’s face it: gift giving is difficult. Whether you are trying to give a gift that is personal without being too personal or are trying to buy for someone you don’t know that well, it can be hard to figure out exactly what to give. Gourmet popcorn can be a life-saver in these situations, because it is the gift that just about anyone will love. A popcorn gift is perfect because:

1) Gourmet flavored popcorn is perfect for any age group. The young and the young at heart love popcorn. Children love to eat popcorn, adults love it, and even hard-to-shop for teens love to settle down with a favorite movie and a bag of delicious popcorn.

2) Gourmet popcorn is perfect for any occasion. Going to a house-warming party? Gourmet popcorn is ideal for a new homeowner who probably wants to unwind from moving with a sweet treat. A sudden birthday party? A beautiful popcorn gift is sure to please. Popcorn even makes an attractive business or corporate gift.

3) Just about everyone loves popcorn. Popcorn reminds us of summer fairs and amusement parks, of hours spent watching movies with friends and family. Most of us have very positive and pleasant associations with popcorn and that’s why we love to receive it as a gift.

4) Popcorn is a useful gift. Just about everyone loves to eat, so a popcorn gift is sure to be gobbled up – literally. You also don’t have to worry about size or color when picking out popcorn gifts – these gifts fit everyone on all occasions.

5) You can personalize a popcorn gift by buying the perfect flavor. From traditional buttered popcorn to sweet chocolate covered popcorn to savory cheese popcorn and many flavors in between, you can pick out the perfect present for your recipient. You can also wrap your gifts up in a specific way that might be special to your gift recipient or you might want to hand-pick a selection of popcorn flavors.

6) Popcorn fits any lifestyle. Popcorn is healthy and perfect for those who don’t want rich treats. It is an environmentally-conscious gift choice, too, since it does not add to the pollution of the planet. If your gift recipient loves the outdoors, he or she can take a popcorn treat with them. If your gift recipient loves TV or the movies, popcorn is the obvious choice.

My daily vegan diet

I’m already one week staying in Siberia and spending my time in searching vegan products with high nutrition value. As a basis for all dishes I use season locally grown vegetables. Unfortunately, there’s still no such concept as organic products here and I buy all vegetables in the city market. I personally believe that small home farm will use fewer chemicals because of its costs therefore I prefer to buy vegetables and herbage from old ladies, that sitting on the short chairs around the market and bus stations. Of cause I may be wrong.
While I staying in Novosibirsk (the center of Siberia region) my daily ration include:
tomatoes, beetroot and beet leaves, cucumber, egg-plant, lettuce, coriander, parsley and young carrot. All this vegetables I use both in fresh daily salad and in hot borsch as well. As a sauce for salad I use flax oil, which is very reach in Omega 3 and its all natural and plant based. The local Siberia Oil Company (this company specialization is edible oil only) are use to add to flax oil ginger, carrot and other additions.
As a main dish I use buckwheat, rise, boiled green beans or red beans, lentils or hummus. For the desert I eat some fruits, kiwi for instance.
I checked the Daily Nutrition Value of my ration and the conclusion is that I have more than enough vitamins, such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin B, B6, B1 (Thiamin) and B2. I’m ok with Omega3, Magnesium, Manganese, Potassium, Proteins, Dietary Fibers. Regarding Iron and Calcium. I have 95% of needed daily Iron and 49% of calcium. So, calcium is still an issue. What I’m adding for calcium is soy milk manufactured by Alpro with adds of calcium and eating some musly or other products that contents sesame which is reach in calcium.

Vegetarian restaurant in Moscow

Close to Chistie Prudy (Chistiprudniy Bulvar 12) and on Tverskaya 5, in the very center of Moscow you can find two branches of the vegetarian restaurant “Avocado”.
Avocado restaurant
In “Avocado” cafe, the primary rules of vegetarian cuisine are observed. Only ecologically clean products are used. Water is taken from the cleanest natural sources. The utensils never touch any animal food. In “Avocado” dessert neither eggs nor gelatin is used.

On the menu are dishes whose recipes have been collected all over the world: national oriental, European and eastern Slavic dishes. Next to eastern dish “Kichri” you can find Sicilian Broccoli and Belarus Potato Draniki. There is a special section for those who observe Lenten.
In the menu I found fusion dishes with the different “awaken grains”. Unfortunately, they exist in the menu only…

I tried hot spinach salad, saute in the pot and baked apple for the dessert.

Moscow vegan news and soy products

There is something new happened in Moscow supermarkets! In 7th Continent chain I founded few soy products by Bis company: Soy pasta cheese, Tofu in Russian version, chocolate paste, phyto yogurt in different tests- cherry, peach and others. All this products is Tofu that has a very soft texture.

Soy pasta cheese:

Tofu:
Tofu
All this products are not expensive (0.5 $ for 200 gr.)

Advantages of the soy products
For those who don`t know what good in soy products I want to list here some facts. Soya beans are the most nutritious of all the beans since they contain essential Omega 3 fatty acids, amino acids, phyto estrogens, proteins, minerals, and vitamins. Soya constitutes as an excellent source of proteins that reduced arterial pressure and elevated levels of cholesterol. Soya is an excellent source of many minerals and it also contains additional calcium since calcium chloride is used in its production.

I`s soy healthy?
I have to mention, that there is some research on the dangers of soy products. I believe that the truth as always is in the middle. I decided after long period of time that I used a lot of soy product to reduce the amount and use it when I have no other vegan options of proteins. I`m using it while I`m travelling and it helps me to solve the problem of luck of options. I`m also use the soy milk on the daily basis but only very small amount- 1 liter for 1,5 weeks. What about you? What is your opinion on soy products?
